About Hanna Thistle — Provenance, statement, and exhibitions

Statement — 2024
Hanna Thistle is a multidisciplinary artist who has been creating for nearly 25 years. Her work explores beauty, survival, femininity, symbolism, and transformation through emotionally charged materials and sculptural storytelling. Her practice moves between painting, sculpture, ritual objects, and conceptual works that turn personal and collective experience into visual power.
Trained through a lifetime of studio classes and self-directed study, she works across mediums — canvas, pigment, found objects, spent shells, paper, print — letting the material decide the language. The studio is never still and never cold: music loud, windows open, color leading the hand.
She is a colorful maximalist who believes the only rules in art are to be beautiful and to be honest — and that the most serious thing a piece can do is make you feel alive. Each work is a record of that feeling: radiant, alive, a little wild, made by hand and made on purpose.
The works are unique. They are not editions, not duplicates, not products. They are recordings of a moment that cannot be replayed.
Every morning begins the same way — a gratitude prayer and breathwork before anything else gets to touch the day. From there, life is lived in a state of love, light, fun, and GRATITUDE. When she is not painting, she is almost certainly dancing around the studio or singing at full volume — Lil Wayne, Young Miko, Katy Perry, Lana — building Spotify playlists like little color studies, yoga flows, and dance parties all at once. Sound is just another pigment.
